Personality

Hiding behind his façade of a bubbly, fun-loving person, V'vian is often cruel, sardonic, and misanthropic to a fault. Naturally self-serving and self-centered, he needs convincing to have his focus swayed from himself, though he will sometimes do "inexplicable" acts of kindness. He has an affinity for all things flashy and over the top, often risking personal safety to push his limits as much as possible at all times.

V'vian's behaviour is extremely expressive and put on, he has an eye for aesthetics and a knack for the dramatic, using his theatrical gestures and grandiose language to describe everyday events. He can be a crybaby at times, especially if strong displays of emotion will help him get his way. Some may find him to be arrogant, self-centered, or demanding; those with a keen eye may even see him as manipulative or dishonest. Though his outward appearance is that of a cocky, self-absorbed individual, he struggles severely with self-worth and in trusting the intentions of others in relation to his worth and meaning.

Having suffered over a decade of abuse and isolation at the hands of Tiberius van Agrippa, V'vian is slow to trust others and is plagued by trauma that haunts every moment of his life, sleeping or awake. Shaped by his circumstances, V'vian has childish tendencies and a surprising degree of naivety when it comes to interpersonal relationships and life as an independent adult; and what interpersonal relationships he is able to develop are often strained by fear and reclusiveness. His theatric personality and tendency to think of most interactions as stageplays are coping mechanisms developed in response to the lack of control he had in all aspects of life.

Though his haughtiness and self-described misanthropy mean he is combative to a fault, V'vian often helps others (his role as the Warrior of Light is the greatest example of this), putting his life on the line and devoting large amounts of time and energy to the greater good. His own explanation for this incongruity is that he acts from a sense of obligation and convenience or to make himself look good; however, another possibility is that he truly does care for others and that his antagonistic behaviour is the act; a defense mechanism to keep people away after a lifetime of being hurt for being overly trusting.

Appearance

V'vian prefers military-themed fashion in bright colours, and often chooses fashion over practicality. For years, he dresses in a gothic theme, though this changes once he has moved on past committing the murder of his husband.
His eyes start out a light periwinkle colour, but change to a brighter purple hue after the events of Shadowbringers.
The armor V'vian wears on his arms and legs are limb enhancers developed by himself to make up for his physical weakness and frailty, increasing his capabilities at running, jumping, lifting, and striking far beyond what he would be capable of even in peak physical condition.
Mountain Miqo'te tend to carry weight, and are built stout compared to other types of Miqo'te as an adaptation to the cold; V'vian is no exception. They also have especially thick, long fur and naturally flushed faces.
V'vian has insisted on cutting his own hair since he first cut it in his escape from Garlemald (not trusting anyone else to cut it for him), and has not gotten any better at it with time.

Inventory

Medication - Always

A soothing draught concocted for V'vian that works to ease lifelong pains both mental and physical. He has developed a dependency to the drug, and without it, he faces severe withdrawals.Does not mix well with alcohol.

Tobacco Pouch - Always

V'vian is a lifelong smoker, and brought his trusty tobacco pouch with him when he left Garlemald. Eorzeans smoke from pipes, so rolling papers are now a rare commodity. The tobacco is cut with a popular herb that induces relaxation.

Overclocked Gunblade - Frequent

A highly customized, highly treasured gunblade that V'vian has taken to using as his primary weapon. As he cannot properly channel magic, V'vian has found ways to "make do" with his style of fighting and swordsmanship in a combination of Garlean gunblade techniques and personal flare.

Travel Bag - Frequent

V'vian must travel heavy due to his reliance on magitek, and carries a massive pack stuffed full of tools and useful pieces of technology. Often loaded onto mounts or Tom Sawyered onto traveling companions.

Journal/Sketchpad - Frequent

Holds sketches and notes on V'vian's adventures and plans for engineering alike; it is a mixture of a travel journal and an engineering notebook. Includes two pages of boastful foreword, in case of future publication. The XXVth edition.

Imported Coffee - Situational

Only carried with him on long travels, or kept at home, and is too costly and rare to drink every day. He makes it on "rainy days" or as a treat and drinks it with copious amounts of milk and sugar.

⠀⠀⠀Vivianus aan Vega was born in a land long since annexed by the Empire, and his childhood was one of bowing to the whims of the imperial soldiers and overseers ruling over his homeland. A weak, sickly child, Vivianus was unable to help provide for his single mother through the traditional efforts of manual labor and lived a childhood shattered by shame and the crushing realization that his very life was nothing more than a burden to the woman who gave it to him.

V'vian's immense phobia of all who hold the title of "Legatus" and all who once allied themselves with Tiberius has given him a fear of the Black Wolf as well.

Carnus aan Garra

Carnus is the reason V'vian has a fascination with swordsmanship and is the one who trained him vigorously in his childhood. Though he may have gone overboard, he meant only to prepare V'vian for the harsh reality of dealing with Garleans later in life.V'vian holds a grudge against Carnus for abandoning him to pursue a military career, but Carnus will swear he only did what he did to ensure V'vian would have a safe life. This plan backfired, as V'vian went to Garlemald to cut his own path, straining their relationship even further.

Vivianus aan Vega was born to a single mother in a cold, isolated village that was occupied by the Garlean Empire for its rich Ceruleum deposits, deep in the inhospitable mountains of Ilsabard. His mother raised him by herself, a lonely life as there were few children in the village, and the closest thing to a companion was his brother, who joined the Garlean military when Vivianus was still very young, made worse by his mother's debilitating somnus addiction.A frail, sickly child, Vivianus struggled to commit himself to manual labor or hunting for food, but soon found himself fascinated with the ruins of machinery left behind from the Imperial invasion and in the Ceruleum mining and processing equipment that had become derelict as more accessible mines had become established. Desperate for some way to support his mother and himself, he taught himself to build and maintain magitek devices using salvaged equipment.The string of increasingly high profile thefts and mounting instances of insurgent attacks using advanced, customized magitek did not go unnoticed by the Imperial Viceroy, Tiberius van Agrippa, the Legatus of the IInd Legion, who had conquered the lands himself. A man with a reputation among the conquered lands to be especially coldhearted and cruel, Agrippa decided he would personally see to the issue, and demanded the villagers themselves oust the "rebel leader" among them.No one was willing to give up Vivianus, to see the child of only ten summers, incapable of hurting a fly even if he wanted to, crushed beneath the heel of Agrippa. For a week straight the Legatus tortured and interrogated the folks of the mountain, but the tightly knit community refused to break. That was until Vivianus' own mother reported him in exchange for a paltry sum of gil.The IInd Legion's soldiers took Vivianus to stand in front of the Legatus, who did not believe the child could be responsible until he saw his hands: scarred by burns often earned by young engineers in the Magitek Academy. Agrippa, who had sworn to kill the rebel, instead saw Vivianus as an opportunity, endeared by the bloodlust and hatred in the child's eyes. Swearing to raise the savage child as his own, to civilize and "rehabilitate" him, he takes Vivianus back with him to the capital.
